Little Red Riding Hoods and the Wolf named Emilio

Little Red Riding Hoods and the Wolf named Emilio

The school year is nearly over, the aims gotten because as Emilio said to me “I have kept the work up and focused in the learning process, whatever the results”. Looking back, this C-1 class group is going to be a landmark in future C-1 classes; for instance our hard-working attitude, our flow capacity, our “gardener’s abilities”, etc… has been a scope challenge all the time.

As a matter of fact, we turn to be some good raw material to build an English Advanced Learners’ group. From Steve Jobs hunger and love, passing by Robert Frost or Brueghel, we have painted a background trying to monitor our own mistakes telling anecdotes and sad or funny stories, laughing, but always looking for our place in the sun.

Correcting letters, writing poems, doing exercises, acquiring some vocabulary…I was tingling with excitement!! We miss Alicia and her entrepeneur classes, all we hope is that her recovery would be the best;there’s little to say. Go on Alice, indulge yourself!

We got impressed by Sir Richard Burton and his incredible 30 languages spoken; in addition, we knew the right way to read in “The Art of Reading” and we jotted down some ideas. From Montaigne, we learnt to be a fresh reader and how to invent essays. On the other hand, we expanded our understanding with The Bible, Cervantes and Shakespeare.

Anyway, It would be unfair of us to blame you of our lack of time to live with our relatives or practice our favourite hobbies, or

so on. Instead of those things, we’d rather prefer to keep it easy listening to singer-songwriters like Leonard Cohen. I made my bucket list, and after a while, I remembered Sting dancing alone, or Borja making some minor repairs in the Christmas Carol dedicated to you.

I’m still laughing.

Furthermore the films…Amistad and the issue of slavery ; I have a dilemma: the worst thing along the course goes to…Amistad film or Virginia Woolf book. In any case, I must admit in my heart of hearts that I finally understood her way. I go on to say that “A passage to India” or “To kill a mockingbird” have been wonderful movies to watch.

However, the best for me has been TED talks which taught me how to improve my listening level. I couldn’t have got it -certainly not.

What about Chris Hedges or, Malcoln Gladwell, or homophones like heard-herd; or The Road from Colonus or James Joyce “In the portrait of the artist as a young man”.

The Global Problems, like today with our economical crisis, brought to my mind that “I have a dream” or “The Celtic Tree Calendar” without changing the word given in the passive and causatives exercises or the oral presentations (Bubka, Gabilondo,…) in 5 minutes (Nuria!!!). At least, we saved the planet and our ecological footprint, that was enough.

Unforgettable: Marisu’ s short poem of complaint,

I am feeling exhausted

as to galleys sentenced.

My mind really collapses

with writings and tenses.

Could I cry you a river

for my poor only neuron,

lost in dark confusion,

in this plaintive song?

Like Emilio’s small poem of consolation.

Ah! I almost forgot, Chomsky…you really are the fucking man!!

Between mock exams, consolidations, “social problems” vocabulary (never better said), bring and take expressions, …threads its way: Mandela’s Way and Richard Stengel helped us to discover the pleasure of reading until the History lessons came.

World war One (amazing…), verbs and prepositions, and INVERSION like the great star of the term. I wish you wouldn’t research so much.

In death not divided” from the film Paths of Glory , the Yoga class and the book named “Mastery” (I promised to finish it this summer).

A Short Story of England to think out of the box nowadays, in a flow sense, more readings, use of English, History riddles, World War Poems, …

Walking semantic field, the ways of walking, Dickens bicentenary…and Hamlet. More reading comprehensions, reading tasks, Jimmy Carter, complaints, and SONGS.

The brain that changes itself, fine tuning and embelleshing…we were across the …English Universe, completely exhausted, for better or for worse, modals and semimodals…we need more words of wisdom.

Thanks for all!!

Poscript: we heard Emilio’ s howling.

Finish the quatrain

A quatrain by Alberto J. Ruiz Güeto

Everytime I think of you, I’m looking at me.

All about myself remain silent, with you.

In dead silence, we too. Can you see?

Everywhere you go, we’ll be there, just me and you.

A non stop feeling is becoming strong,

if I was good at anyhing!! Oh, my God!!

I’ll keep staying in the flow,

without losing track of time, enthralled.

Drilling with words with nuggets of information of you,

staring at your picture, asking to myself the rethorical question

about my real conscious awareness loving you,

like newly-learnt insights from the heart to your soul.

To love one another should be out of hand,

it is not payable in advance undoubtedly,

and it is common knowledge that seeing red

is not my way to fade your love away.

Being on the verge oflosing all my hopes,

admitting that your deeper feelings were thrown,

you have broken my heart with a big bang

in an uncommensurate with my goodness.
